Questions? Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
What makes you different than a traditional kennel?
Kennel’s are set up differently, but in a Traditional Kennel, your dog is usually left in a cage most of the day and may be let out briefly or placed in an outdoor run a few times a day. The dogs usually do not interact with other dogs. Some kennels will offer 15 minute play time with a staff member for an extra charge. 4 Paws Pet Resort offers all day play for their guests for no extra fee.
What Vaccinations are required?
For all our staff and other guests safety, your dog must have Rabies, Bordetella and Dispenser. Please check with you Vet to make sure that your dog is up to date with his vaccines.
What do you do in case of illness or injuries?
We will quickly assess the situation and determine our plan of action depending on the illness or injury and we will try and reach you.
Our concern is the best care of our guest and if we determine that we need to call the Veterinary clinic we will immediately do so.
Do I need to bring my own food for my dog?
Yes please bring your own dog’s food and treats. That way your pet will maintain their diet, keeping a nice consistent experience for them during their stay with us.
Do you take puppies? How old do the dog have to be?
Based on our experience, for the most enjoyable experience for your puppy, we require that they be at least four months old. This is for the safety of your puppy and other dogs. Final vaccination typically isn’t given until four months of age.
Is it normal that my dog is tired and sleeps for a few days after coming back from 4 paws?
This is one of the great benefits while staying here at 4 Paws. Your pet gets to play all day, naturally, they are tired at the end of the day. We do give the dog a rest period during the day, however, after an extended stay with us they will most likely be happy to be home and curl up in their nice bed at home.
My dog was very thirsty when he arrived home. Do you give them water in their room?
Water is available at all times in their room. Playing hard all day can cause the dog to be more thirsty than usual. We recommend that you put ice cubes in their bowl when you arrive home.
Should I book a Bath for my dog before coming home?
We strongly recommend that you book a Bath for your dog before coming home. Your dog will be playing and interacting with other dogs and will be dirty especially if he or she stays with us for 3 days or more and if we get raining weather.
Should I feed my dog before going to 4 Paws?
It is best that you feed your dog 1.5 hours prior to coming to 4 Paws to prevent bloat. Bloat can be caused by playing too soon after eating and can be harmful. Please let us know if your dog ate less than 1.5 hours before coming to us. We will make sure that your dog rests before going out to play.
We are going away for a vacation, how soon do I need to reserve a room for my dog?
As soon as you know when you are going to be away, you can reserve by calling or visiting our website and fill out the reservation form. Depending on the time of year we can often accommodate short notice or same day if your dogs have been with us before. It is best to reserve a few months in advance especially during peak season ( Christmas, New Year, March Break ) and other holidays and weekend book a week in advance.
During the summer months, we fill up early for the weekends. We may require a Credit Card to hold a boarding reservation.
What if my dogs get hurt?
Although we do our best to minimize any injuries to your dog, during normal play a dog may get small scratches, nicks. We supervise the dogs when they are outside to play and if we see that some dogs are playing too ruff then we will bring them in for a break.
